Road across Strathcona Dam to close to two-way traffic next month

August 26, 2024

The road across the Strathcona Dam will closed to two-way traffic beginning Sept. 23.

As part of planning for the upcoming Strathcona Dam Water Discharge Upgrade Project, the road will be closed 24 hours a day, including weekends until Oct. 11. There will also be single-lane alternating traffic across the dam from Sept. 3-22 and Oct. 12 to April 2025, BC Hydro has announced.

Signs indicating road closures will be placed along the roads close to the dam.

“This road closure and then single-lane alternating traffic will allow us to make alterations to the existing controls for the three spillway gates at the dam,” reads the media release from BC Hydro. “We will construct temporary spillway gate control facilities, including a temporary control building, on the top of the earthfill dam.”
